Some Christmas Gift Ideas

Christmas will be here sooner than we know.  I was thinking today of some gift ideas that I would both love to give and in some cases receive because these are things that save time and in some cases, also lots of money.  Since my energy is limited (and I love convenience), I decided to do some armchair shopping to put this list together.  This post does contain affiliate links to Amazon and I receive some compensation if you purchase these products or go through my links and purchase other products also (thank you in advance if you do this), but you can also find these items in many brick and mortar stores like Walmart, etc..  This is the time of year to also be on the lookout for those Black Friday sale prices, many of which are starting to come out even earlier this year.

The Instant Pot is something that I have on my own wish list.  I love that it can be a pressure cooker, rice maker, steamer, slow cooker, saute and warmer all in one.  I could see this replacing so many of my other appliances.

This is the Roku that we have and we love it because it can be used on older style television sets as well as the new ones.  We got rid of cable tv and just use our Roku.  There are many free channels that you can get through Roku as well as stream YouTube.  For a small fee, you can have channels such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, Sling, Vudu, Hulu, etc. streamed through this also.  We have Netflix as part of a family plan through Jaysn and Rachel.

I am a big believer in buying good books for children.  This is one of my favorites!  Every year my grandchildren receive books for Christmas that reflect their current interests and are age appropriate.  My own grandmother did this for me as a child and I still have some of those treasure gifts.

Oh my goodness, if I had a granddaughter I would so buy this for her.  My grandboys love to dress up as superheros and characters from different movies and shows and costumes are always a huge hit with them.

My older grandboys loved their Vtech toys and I am now getting them for our youngest grandboy, baby Steven, who just turned 6 months old.

Those are just a few of the ideas that I have for Christmas while I sit here doing some armchair shopping today.  I am still in shock at how fast this year has gone.  Didn't we just celebrate Christmas a few months ago?

  1. I got an Instant Pot last Christmas--totally unexpecedly, and I love it. My sister thought I might, and took a chance on getting me one. Now, I'm considering asking for a cookbook for Instant Pots:) I want to use it more!

Funny thing....last evening when my nephew was reading to me, he chose Brown Bear, Brown Bear. He actually can basically recite it, but still loves to "read" it once in a while. One of the things I do when I'm working with him is we spend the required 15 minutes per school day taking turns reading to each other, per teacher's instructions. But, he can choose any book he wants for his part. It's a great book.

    1. Hi Becky, it is so good to hear that you love your Instant Pot. I told my hubby today that is on my wish list. ;) I already told him what I wanted for Christmas though...I need some molding put back up that he tore down a few years ago when he was doing a remodeling project and just never got back to getting that part done. It has been driving me nuts! LOL!

That is so cute about the Brown Bear, Brown Bear book and your nephew. It is one of my favorites and is great for beginning readers too. I also love The Hungry Hungry Caterpillar by the same author. :)

    1. They do look great and according to our sweet Becky above, they are really nice to have on hand. I wish they had been around when I was homeschooling my kids...it would have been a time and lifesaver!

  3. I have two kindles and the amazon trade in thing sounds interesting. I love my paper white kindle, but it is only for reading... no color pictures etc. It's great at the beach because it has no glare. My other is like a tablet and I don't love it as much. I may have to check out the latest and greatest features and see if I want to do a trade in. Thanks for the info!

    1. You are so very welcome Penny. My mom bought my dad the paper white Kindle last year and he loves it for when he is traveling especially. I know he was hesitant at first because of the glare that came off the other ones. :)

  4. Great list. I bought an Instant Pot about 3 weeks ago and already love it. Also bought 'The Essential Instant Pot cookbook" by Coco Morante. I believe she also has a web site.
The instructions with the IP are basic at best so the cookbook has really helped out. I bought the 3QT model which I think has actually been discontinued in the US. It was on enough of a sale that I jumped in. It's perfect for one which is why it's probably been discontinued.
There's also two units that have the 'sterilize' function that will also water bath can. No pressure canning however as the IP doesn't appear to maintain a high enough pressure consistently.
Also, to tell Santa, you might want the largest version, 8 QT. A friend who told me about the IP has already upgraded from the 6QT to the 8QT. The size is a bit misleading since you have to leave a certain amount of 'headroom' to use a canning expression and can't fill the inner pot full to the top.
    Cheers, SJ

    1. Thanks Marilyn. I've been looking at all the Black Friday ads and debating about whether it is worth it to go to the actual stores or just shop from the comfort of my home. ;)
