White Chocolate and Craisin Bark |
Jeff headed over there today to see if he could help them. He and Jaysn have heat tape that works on a thermostat wrapped around the pipes now and bought lots of insulation to put around the skirting of the house since there was none. Hopefully their pipes will thaw out now...if not, we will be hosting Christmas dinner here this year and the kids may bring their dishes out to wash here sometime this week also. Jeff just called and is on his way home so that he can get some sleep before he has to go into work tonight. I may join him and take a nap myself.
I've been busy this morning making 2 loaves of my whole wheat and oatmeal bread and 6 batches of candy. I made 2 batches of White Chocolate and Craisin Bark, 2 batches of White Chocolate Peppermint Bark and 2 batches of Milk Chocolate Peppermint Bark. These are to be gifts for family and friends. I still need to make Cranberry Orange Bread and some different types of candy, but that is going to have to wait because I am worn out. The most ambitious I have been since the candy making session was heating up some soup I pulled out of the freezer and getting some homemade bread crumbs drying in the oven.
I still have this cold, but I am doing much better than I was a few days ago. I think I may be on the mend. I certainly hope so...I don't have time for this!
Your candy looks very yummy. Sorry to hear about the frozen water pipes. I'm always worried about that here as well. Some of the apartments in my complex are over the unheated parking garages -yikes that has to be cold. Fortunately mine is not like that. The floor is a cement slab however so it still gets cold.
ReplyDeleteWe're into the rain right now as well. Snow is falling off the trees enough to make it look like it's still snowing. So glad I don't have to drive anywhere. The roads are ok now but by the afternoon commute will be horrible.
Glad you found the USAToday article. I too was encouraged. Enough to make a doctor's appointment next month to talk it over with her. Oh, just to have a glimmer of hope is so encouraging. And also to know that there is a medical professor who is studying this disease. I found that to be quite affirming as well. Like you, I get so much feedback that if I just tried a little harder, I'd be ok. When faced with those comments, I usually just ignore the comment and walk away. Most of the time anyway.
Cheers, SJ
Thanks SJ. :) The candy is really easy to make, you just melt some of the white chocolate bark in your microwave and stir in the craisins once the chocolate is all melted. You then spread it on a wax paper lined cookie sheet fairly thin and let it harden. It took about 6 minutes for mine to harden up since I put the trays out on the back screened in porch.
DeleteGreat news, the heat wrap on the frozen pipes worked. Jaysn just called to tell me and to thank his father again for all the help. I told him that's what parents are for...to help their kids out. :)
I'm glad you are able to walk away (most of the time) from ignorant comments about your CFS. I used to let it bother me but I have lived with this for so long now that once I try to educate a person on what it is really like to have this disease, if they continue to think I am "lazy" or "faking it" then I figure that is a direct reflection on their character, not mine. ;) Thank you again for the information so I could see that video and read the transcript...it did give me hope and I do hope that your doctor can help you too! Be blessed my friend!
Oh no, frozen pipes are a terrible thing to experience! My husband put the heat wrap tape on all our pipes and we have a heat light down in our well, we sure don't want to have any problems with frozen pipes, plus we keep water dripping on the really cold nights. I saw in your previous comment that the pies thawed, so thankful for that! Hopefully none of them busted! Take it easy friend, there is a lot to do, but your health is worth more. The cranberry bark sounds yummy! It is warming up here, snow tonight, rain tomorrow, not too excited about the rain!
ReplyDeleteHugs to you today :)
That is a great idea to have a heat light in your well! I really wish we had well water here, it tastes so much better than the treated city water. ;) As far as I know, none of their pipes burst open. I'm sure they would have noticed by now. Are you experiencing the great thaw like we are today? The winds are just gusting here!
DeleteOh my goodness I didn't know that pipes froze. At the moment we don't need hot water as our cold tap water is luke warm. Poor pregnant Rachel.
ReplyDeleteJane, did your water heater go out?
DeleteOur water heater is just fine. Thing is it's so hot we don't need it. It's so hot the cold water is luke warm, tepid. It feels cool today even thought the temperature is still high. It's 30 degrees Celcius which is 86F. It is also very humid. A cool shower is looked forward to.
DeleteOur's got that way too when the temperatures were over 100F here in the Summer. I longed for really cold water to drink and to very cool showers also. ;)
DeleteSorry to hear the pipes froze and your son and daughter in law were without water for 3 days! But glad to hear that the heat wraps worked!
ReplyDeleteYour craisin bark looks delicious! I made peppermint bark one year when I found a good sale on white chocolate.
I hope you continue to feel better and have a lovely Christmas with your family and loved ones.
Thank you Bless! I made some peppermint bark this year too...so good and easy. I'm really into easy this year. ;)
DeleteI wish you a blessed and Merry Christmas too!
uh oh, frozen pipes are no fun and dangerous as well - that stinks!! We were at zero degrees this morning - makes me worry that my well pump will freeze up but so far it's been ok, thank God. Your candy looks and sounds delicious - you should share the recipe! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Deborah. :) If you look in my replies above you will see the recipe there. I hope you are staying warm!
DeleteFrozen pipes is no fun. Hope it all turns out well for them. Glad your hubs could help out.
ReplyDeleteAll your candy sounds yummy. I need to get busy!
Hope you are all well before Christmas.
Blessings
My hubby was able to get the pipes thawed. :)
DeleteHi Debbie,
ReplyDeleteAfter reading your reply to some of the comments, I am so happy to hear your kiddos were able to thaw their water pipes.
I am amazed at how much you've been getting done while feeling "under the weather". Please try not to over do, you'll need your strength to enjoy the Christmas celebration with your beautiful family.
Merry Christmas,
Mrs.B
Thanks Mrs. B. I hope you had a lovely Christmas!
DeleteOh no! I'm really hoping that the kids got their pipes fixed by now. I'm also sorry to hear you had a cold. Right around Christmas, that's no good. My mom, my brother, and now the hubby all have something nasty right now. Granted, we are back home now so we brought the yuckiness all the way to the East Coast. Your welcome Kentucky! 😂
ReplyDeleteI hope you are feeling better now Debbie! I hope you had a lovely holiday season as well!
