Family Visit and a Fibro Flare

Jeff, Steven, myself, Sonya and my cousin Tim

Last night, as I was heading to bed, I knew I was in trouble health wise.  I ached everywhere and cursed the Fibromyalgia that was making me feel this way.  I took a sleeping pill hoping it would help get me to sleep, but it did nothing to help me. I lay there for hours, tossing and turning, trying to find a comfortable position and praying for sleep.

This morning, when I woke up, I felt even worse than last night.  The pain levels had me feeling nauseous.  The only thing I can compare it to is having a bad case of the flu where everything aches and you just want to sleep to escape it.  I knew though that my cousin Tim and his wife Sonya were coming in the early afternoon so I got up, showered, and then got a cheese plate, Summer sausage, crackers, and a fruit tray made.  I then collapsed into my recliner.

My cousin and his wife pulled up and I got myself together.  I had not seen Tim since I was 17 years old.  I had lived with his family for 2 months between my junior and senior year of high school.  It honestly felt like no time had passed and we were able to pick right back up where we left off.  Sonya, his wife, is a total sweetheart and we bonded very quickly.  Rachel and Steven came up and joined in the mini family reunion and that made it even more fun.  It took all my energy but oh it was so worth it. 😊  My love tank is filled to overflowing once again.

I'm still flaring and am praying that I feel better tomorrow since my parents will be arriving to stay with us for the night and we have a family dinner at a park and then our oldest grandson Bradley's T-ball game tomorrow night.  My parents understand that I struggle with my health at times and are great about pitching in with whatever is needed.  I really am looking forward to seeing them tomorrow.  I feel so very blessed at the moment.  I may struggle with my health, but my family is so supportive and being with them brings me great joy!

  1. I'm so sorry you don't feel well when you have so much company. Hopefully, you can let them do the grunt work, and you can just visit. It would be a good time to order in some pizza or something if necessary. It's visiting that matters:). Hang in there!

    1. Thanks Becky, we are doing a pizza dinner in a park tonight for dinner so that the little ones can run and play to their heart's content. :) My parents had offered to take the entire crew out to dinner and this is the wonderful idea of our Heather. :)

  2. Your description of spending time with your cousin mirrored how I felt about visiting my cousin. I hadn't seen him in 2+ years and it was like no time had passed. My love tank was overflowing as well.
I am so glad that you have family to be there with you when you're flaring. I describe my bad days as 'being hit by a semi-truck' and I'm forced to have gingerale and soda crackers for the nausea. So weird to explain to people but saying it's like the nonstop flu sort of comes close. And not being able to sleep --- go figure, right?
My MN doctor did suggest having something to eat when I was having trouble falling asleep. Something small and mostly protein like a glass of milk or piece of cheese. His comment was I could be too tired to fall asleep and the food would provide just enough 'energy' to get me to sleep. Seemed strange bu I've tried it and it does work for me some times.
Take good care -- use that recliner.

From the other comments -- I've mostly used garlic scapes two ways. If I pick them early enough, I'll cut them up to about green bean size and saute them in olive oil. Yesterday, they were a little more mature and so I sliced them up very thinly and added them to a stir fry --think the diameter of a green onion and then sliced in 'rounds'.
And some times, I just take the scapes off the garlic and toss them in the compost bin!
    Sending gentle hugs and prayers,
    SJ

    1. Thank you for the suggestion SJ. :) I will try it!

Thank you also for the ideas on how you use the garlic scapes. I know that people are selling them at the Farmer's Market and I wanted to try them but had no idea how to fix them. Be blessed my friend!

  3. Sorry to hear about your flare up, Debbie. I'm glad you got to visit with your cousin and his wife, though. Hope you can rest when your parents visit. Take care of yourself.

    1. Hi Bless, thank you. :) We had a lovely visit with my parents who just headed out a few minutes ago. They were able to go and see Bradley play in a T-ball game last night which thrilled my dad ti no end. :)

  4. It's wonderful that your family understands when those flare ups happen. It can make all the difference, when you are unwell, to have that support and help. I'm glad you enjoyed their visits. Meg:)

  5. Enjoy your blog and your frugal ideas. I think I found this through another frugal blog but honestly can't remember. Your grandsons are so cute and seemed to look familiar. In reading your back blogs, I saw this one with Sonya and Tim! Believe it or not, my husband taught their sons in children's church when they lived on Ohio :) (Maybe that's why they looked familiar to me) What a small world - made smaller by these blogs!
