The news just announced we have someone being tested for Covid-19 near us and it is not sounding good. The person is at one of the colleges and lives in town that Rachel and Jaysn work in, where my pharmacy is and where I do a lot of my shopping. If the one person has it, you can bet there are more cases circulating in the community. I knew it was just a matter of time before it hit our side of Washington state. Things are getting scary.
Jeff and I were just in that town a few days ago picking up one of my perscriptions (I was able to get a 3 month supply thank God), some Sudafed, beef and chicken bullion (for making soups and things), a huge bottle of creamer and a few other items. We also went to Safeway to pick up a free can of olives and some rice a roni and were surprised to find Zinc lozengers there since everywhere else was sold out. We got a package of those too. I just pray no one who may have the virus was in either of the stores.
After seeing that we may have it in the community and seeing that local businesses and the colleges are preparing for us to be hit, I did what I always do...I took inventory of my pantry and my medical supplies once more. I did find some gaps so I am hoping to fill those on Thursday early in the morning before other people are up shopping. I'll just have Jeff take me in when he gets home from his overnight shift since he has to go and deposit his paycheck anyway. Things would not be pretty here if we ran out of coffee and if Jeff is home for 2 weeks, we will go through lots and lots of coffee. 😉 Of course there are other items too and if it is just Jeff and I here, we can last quite awhile, but if some of the rest of the family comes to stay, we will go through things much faster. Peanut butter is another item I would hate to run out of...both Jeff and one of our grandsons are addicted to it.

ReplyDeleteSo far, we don't have any known cases in our town, but the college students will be coming back from spring break this weekend. I am going to try to do a little more stocking up this week, and I really wish the college my son attends would go to online classes for a few weeks.
I was reading a report from a doctor in Italy, and it is so sad...more than 9500 cases and 650 deaths so far. He says:
“So be patient, you can’t go to the theatre, museums or the gym,” Macchini wrote. “Try to have pity on the myriad of old people you could exterminate."
I read that report too and it is something that we all need to keep in mind. Praying for you and your family.
DeleteDebbie, I was wondering how things were with you and yours. Yes, it is getting closer, isn't it? I have been trying not to get too worried, but, I have been checking my supplies, too. I always keep something on hand in case there is an earthquake type emergency, but, there are gaps in my stockpile that I am trying to fill in and quickly. Please stay as safe as you possibly can and I am keeping you and yours in my prayers.

DeleteHere, where I live in Missouri, we have now had our first positive 2 cases. One was a young lady who had just returned from Italy last week, she traveled on Amtrak from Chicago to St. Louis,so that train or maybe just where she had been on the train had to be taken off schedule and disinfected. The day after she got home she got sick and went to the hospital and they tested her for the virus and thought she had it. The family was told that she was to go home and self quarantine along with her mother, father, and sister. The family has lawyered up and insists the family was not told to self quarantine. Maybe they weren't told specifically,I don't know. So Saturday night the father and younger daughter went to a father and daughter dance where the younger sister's schoolmates and their fathers attended the dance at a well known expensive hotel and before that many of them gathered at another family's home before the dance. After they had gotten to the dance and been there a while, they got a phone call saying that the test result was indeed positive, and then they promptly left the dance. I believe that there are three schools now closed until further notice in connection with that case. That family lives in a very well-to-do community not that far from where we live, maybe 8 or 10 miles away; though very far away in terms of lifestyle and economic situation. We often shop at the grocery store in that area. We may stop doing that. My husband caught me being a little silly when I was worrying about going to get my hair cut at the Great Clips on a street near there. He told me he doubted that many people from that family's very posh neighborhood get their hair cut at Great Clips (no disrespect for Great Clips meant). And then, even closer to home, another Corona virus case was confirmed. That person works about 3 miles from our home. That person had traveled out of the US and had just returned recently. They worked for Bayer and now one of Bayer's big office buildings is being closed until further notice, I imagine just for disinfecting, but who knows how many fellow workers may have been infected. I hope none. I am currently feeling a little too close to Missouri Corona virus ground zero. (And I am still hesitant about getting my hair cut at that location, but that is where the best hair cutter for my bangs is.)
ReplyDeleteI have been wondering about that story of the selfish father. It irks me to no end that even though they were told they thought his daughter might have it that he still went out and possibly exposed all those other people to the virus. Thank you for sharing more of the story with me. I do understand your hesitancy to go out and get your bangs cut. I'm at the point where I am afraid to go and get my routine bloodwork done at my doctor's office.
DeleteI too am fighting the fear of this. I'm trying to hold on to what the news is saying 'plan, don't panic' but it's hard some times.
ReplyDeleteSo far, my local grocery stores are well stocked except for hand sanitizer and rubbing alcohol. Both of those things have been off the shelves for weeks.
I've noticed one change in my behavior at the stores - I'm doing self checkout now. I don't want to interact with the cashier and I dont' want to stand in line near anyone. Like you I'm also going to the store earlier in the day to try and avoid crowds. And I'm washing my hands the minute I'm home.

Not panicking is hard to manage at times. I did not sleep at all last night or this morning because I will admit, I had bit of an anxiety attack. If you have a Dollar Tree store near you, check for rubbing alcohol there. Love you my friend!
DeleteWe are just waiting here, not with fear but with faith. One of my meds I can only get a 30 day supply of, because of the cost, $15,000 for 3 months.

ReplyDeleteJust back from Safeway this morning - not a package of TP on their shelves. But in the same aisle, overstocks of paper towels. Also plenty of Kleenex and paper napkins. Also no disinfecting wipes of any kind but in the same aisle, plenty of cans of Lysol spray. Weird.
A friend in CA said that Costco was a bit nuts yesterday given it was midday and mid-week.
Thanks for the advice about Dollar stores but they've been sold here for weeks as well.
I'm thankful I've been able to build my 'pantry' over time. Slow and steady. I did stock up today on more Polysporin triple ointment and first aid tape. Both were on great sales and I would have tossed a few packages in my cart even in 'regular' times. Shopping as usual for me for the most part. I did add a package of paper towels and one of paper napkins which for me was a bit of a top-up.
Try and stay calm - stress is really bad for us and can trigger our health crashes.

Hi Sally :) Isn't is strange what things are there on the shelves and what is not? Our Costco's in Spokane and down in Clarkston are nuts right now. I am so glad I did not have to go to any of them. Love you my friend and take care!
