Insomnia and Maggie

It's a cool and damp Fall day here and I am going on 8 1/2 hours total of sleep within the last 48 hours.  Insomnia has returned with a vengeance. I'm so tired and am dragging today.  Yesterday was a busy day of having my annual mammogram and running errands.  Shortly after I got home from all of that, we got a phone call from my cousin Jeremy who had just picked up a new fur baby.  He wanted to know if he could bring her by on his way home and he needed help naming her.

Meet Maggie!  As soon as I saw her I knew she her name must be Maggie and my cousin liked it so that is her new name. :)  She is 12 weeks old and was brought up to Spokanimal from a high kill shelter in California.  She looks just like a lighter colored version of my parents' dog Moki, who was also rescued from a high kill shelter in California.  This little girl is all puppy!  She is full of energy and gives lots of lovies.  She is in that chew on everything stage so we had to keep taking shoes, bathmats, etc, away from her.  As you can see, she did find lots of toys she could play with here though.  Maggie had just gotten fixed the day before so we did not allow Caesar to meet her yet because we did not want to take any chances of them getting too wild and her possibly ripping her stitches out.  Doofy (aka Rufus) eyed her warily through the glass door as we had put him out on the deck so we would not try to intimidate her.  He will have to get used to her soon though because she will be staying with us whenever work takes my cousin out of town.  It's so nice to have a new fur baby in the family!

  1. Oh my, Maggie is such a cutie pie!!! She's all gangly legs right now, isn't she? I take Melatonin to help me sleep at night - have you tried it?

    1. She is all legs right now and kept running on our hard floors and then sliding when she tried to stop. LOL! I have tried Melatonin and it gives me horrible nightmares, as does Valorin. I just try to deal with it the best I can. :)

  2. She's just adorable. I remember with fondness that stage in a puppy's life. My first go with goldens was actually 'twins', two puppies from the same litter. Oh my, did that give me empathy for parents with actual twins! SJ

    1. LOL SJ...as the mother of actual twins and having had Golden Retrievers, I can tell you that one is much harder than the other. ;) I'll let you guess which. ;)

  3. Maggie's a cutie. That's great of you to babysit her. I had to babysit my grandpuppies earlier this year and it was more work than the grandchildren. Hope you get some sleep soon!

    1. Thanks Jane. :) I am looking forward to spending more time with her, even though I know she is going to be a lot of work. My son Chris just called and they are going down to meet her today. They only live 2 blocks away from my cousin. My youngest grandson is very excited to meet the new puppy. :)

  4. Maggie is cute! I hope the insomnia goes away, soon. I don't even try to go to sleep before 3:00 a.m. anymore.

    1. Hi Bless. It sounds like you and I are in the same boat with our sleep schedules. It's frustrating when you have to be up early to go somewhere when you don't even get to sleep until a few hours before you have to be up again.

  5. Awwwww! Maggie looks like a sweetie pie! Bless your cousin's heart for rescuing her. I'm battling the insomnia hard-core right now, it is not fun. I swear there are some nights I feel like I didn't fall asleep at all. I hope yours eases up Debbie!

    1. Hi Jessica. Maggie is a sweetheart but I'm really hoping she gets housebroken soon. She has been leaving little surprises for my cousin all over the place. YUCK! I don't do well with that at all and since she will be staying with us when he is out of town, she has to be done with all that soon. ;) Praying that you are finally getting some good sleep too!
