Making a List and Checking it Twice

No, I am not making a Christmas gift list.  What I am working on is my list of things I need to stock up on for the Summer.

~Sugar, I need lots of this for making jams, syrups and canned fruit.
~Vinegar 5% acidity for making pickles.
~A coffee grinder, our's is dying a painful and slow death...found one at Walmart today and I must say, the hubby looked very excited when he saw it. ;)
~Laundry detergent...I made a huge batch of this on Sunday afternoon so we should be set for another 3-4 months!
~Coffee, we are down to one can and a few packages of beans.
~A folding table that I can set up my sewing machine on and that we can also take with us when we go camping.
~Another pair of lightweight capri pants.  I have heavier denim ones but unfortunately have put on weight since last year and my lighter weight ones no long fit.
~Trash bags.  We ran out of the wood pellet bags that we recycle during the heating season.
~Latex free band aids.  I'm allergic to latex and to many of the adhesives on first aid products.  I'm a klutz and seem to hurt myself when I work on home improvement projects so these are a must.
~Club soda or Seltzer water...picked up 6 2 liter bottles at .69 today at Safeway.
~Facial tissues.  My allergies are horrible this year.
~Sudafed is another need for my allergies.
~Benadryl, did I mention I am allergic to bees?
~Canning jars in various sizes.  I plan on doing a lot of canning this year.
~A full tank of propane for the BBQ grill.

I'm curious, does anyone else make a summer stock up list?

  1. I have a list too. And a garage sale list, also. It's amazing how many things I find on it, and some of the things are quite unusual, like one of those magnifying things you hang from your neck for doing cross stitch. Allergies are horrible this year, also. Can't remember the last time I didn't have a sinus headache. I guess it gives us a reason to look forward to winter!

    1. Jane, I'm so sorry you have a sinus headache. I wish Winter would be a allergy free time for me, but mine are year round. They used to be a lot worse though. after having a total hysterectomy I don't have to live on Sudafed every single day of the year anymore. I do have some Sudafed free days and even weeks now. ;)

I have a garage sale list also that I keep in my wallet. It really does help knowing what I need or am looking for, especially with dvds so that I do not double buy anything.

Be blessed and have a great day!

  2. Never thought of actually making a list like this. Great idea.
I almost always stroll through the aisle at Safeway that has the canning supplies. Happy to find jars and lids on sale this week. Yea!
Harvested two grocery bags of beets this morning. Am taking a break at the moment but will be cooking the beets and cleaning the greens shortly. Cheers, SJ in Vancouver BC

    1. Hi SJ, I'm so glad you found some canning supplies on sale. I am waiting for Jeff to get paid in a few days and then I plan on picking some up too. Do you pickle any of your beets? My MIL loves pickled beets and so does my mother. :)

    2. Funny you should ask about the beets.I'm canning some pickled beets today. I washed my canning jars while the coffee was being made this morning. I'm not in the 'full' production mode any more like when I had a full household. I'm only planning on four pints for today. Slow and steady and something manageable. And, yes, I love beets and beet greens sauteed in a little olive oil and garlic. Finished in bowl with a little drizzle of apple cider vinegar and salt and pepper. Beets are one of the best crops for me and, so far, pest free. Cheers, SJ in Vancouver BC

  3. My list consists of a magnetic note pad on the fridge and isn't nearly as organized as yours!!

    1. Hi Deborah. :) I have one of those going for my grocery list. Well that or sometimes a big clip with a piece of scrap paper when I am out of those cute little notepads. :)

  4. Don't really have a summer stock up list; just an on-going list.

    1. Hi Bless. I do hope you are able to stay cool today. It is really hot here and I would assume that it is there for you too. :) I have several ongoing lists...grocery, stock up, yard sale, etc. Lists keep me sane! ;)

  5. I've been bad and haven't thought of anything but my ice dying lately. Since the Grand Girl is here I'll be thinking of craft and learning activity supplies. We are open to all kind of supplies my friends have on hand that they are glad to get rid of.

    1. HI Barbara. :) Have you checked out the clearance section at JoAnn's and Michael's? I have found so many crating kits and things there for pennies on the dollar.

  6. I don't tend to stock up for summer, but I do for winter! Hope you got everything on your list!

  7. The only things I stock up on in the summer is sunscreen, Benedryl (I have a bee sting allergy as well), and natural insect repellents. However, I do spend the summer and growing months getting things stocked up for the winter, canning, dehydrating, freezing. Dorothy

    1. Hi Dorothy. :) What natural insect repellents have you found and used? I'm always on the lookout for good ones. Thanks!

    2. Hi Debbie,
I use a product called "BugBand". It's a Boy Scouts of America Brand. The ingredients are geranol, soy oil, sodium lauryl sulfate, mint, rosemary, geranium oil, water. It's all natural, DEET free. I have the spray, towelettes, and bracelets. It repels, ticks, mosquitos, flies, gnats, no-seeums,and fleas. The only warning on it was "don't apply to the hands of children". I got it on QVC. I never go out into my garden without it because bugs seem to think I'm delicious. I think this product is great. Toxic to the bugs but not to humans.

    3. Thank you Dorothy! I will have to get some of that for us. I'm so sensitive to chemicals and have been looking for something that will work and not get me sick. :)

  8. I've never made a summer stock-up list, but what a great idea! I pretty much stock up on sunscreen and call it good, ha ha.

I'm in the market for a coffee grinder too! I just harvested my chamomile and it's about dry enough to grind for tea! I can't wait to try homegrown chamomile tea :-)

    1. Jessica, let me know how the chamomile tea turns out. A friend of mine used to grow her own for tea also. :)
