Poor Caesar. He loves to make friends with other animals and I'm sure he thought the little black and white baby skunk that wandered into our yard was a kitten. Jeff and I heard a small bark and then a another. This is not normal for Caesar to bark, even at "friends", we both rushed to see what happened. There was the little skunk, tail raised, spraying. Caesar took a direct hit to the face. :(
I quickly got online to see what we could do to offer the poor guy some relief and get rid of that awful stench. This is what I found and it worked wonders! I would recommend following this link and printing the information out so you have it handy if you ever need it.

Oh no!!! Poor Caesar - that's one of my big fears for my dogs!! That and the porcupines - I pray they never encounter one!! Thanks for the link, I'm saving that info....just in case!
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome Deborah! It really works! I can smell the skunks in the area outside again so Caesar is out on the screened in porch along with Rufus since they both wanted "outside" time.
DeleteOh no! I live in perpetual fear this will happen at my house, as I've smelled that skunk often. Poor Caesar! I'm saving that link too! :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's a great deskunking recipe and one that I hope I never have to use again but am glad to have it just in case.
DeleteOh no. Poor Caesar. I had a dog skunked one time but only found out after the dog had come in the house through the doggie door and rolled on one of the beds. What a clean-up! If I remember, we used tomatoe juice as a rinse followed by a shampoo. Will have to keep some peroxide on hand in case my current dog has an encounter. Cheers, SJ in Vancouver BC
ReplyDeleteSJ, this formula works really well! Caesar did try to come in the house, which is why I put him on the lower cable until I could get him washed.
DeletePoor dog!
ReplyDeleteHe was not a happy camper...that't for sure! ;)
DeletePoor Caesar! Hope he never tries to make friends with another skunk again!
ReplyDeleteI hope he doesn't either. ;)
DeletePoor puppy. We don't have to watch out for skunks here. We do have venomous snakes and cane toads which ooze venom down their backs. Our old girl likes to kill snakes and leaves the toads alone. Hope Caesar is now fully deskunked.
ReplyDeleteI think I'll keep the skunks as opposed to your snakes and toads. I am terrified of snakes.
