Dansko Shoes Rehab

Before

After
I bought the above shoes at the thrift store for $4.97.  They are Dansko brand and super comfortable.  They showed very little wear on the soles of the shoes.   Dansko is a pretty expensive brand that retails for $100 or more per pair.  Looking at the shoes, I thought I could rehab them and make them look pretty good with just a little effort.  I started by using leather conditioner on them and let that sink in and dry.  I then used brown shoe polish on the non suede leather parts.  I finished it off by using a brush for cleaning suede on the suede parts of the shoes.  I spent about 10 minute of actual hands on time on these.  I think they turned out really well and I will be using them for years to come in the Fall and Winter months.  I love being able to make something that is a bit beat up look great again!

  1. They look great! I love making old stuff look new. I've had the same pair of brown suede Uggs for 9 years now because I work them every year to make them look new. A little waterproofing and brushing always helps. I'm going to have to put new liners in them next year, but it's worth it to me!

Hope you are having a great week Debbie! :-)

    1. HI Jessica! That is great that you still have those Uggs and take such good care of them. I have some also and love them!

I've been ill a good part of the week, but I am getting better. :)

  2. Great job on rehabbing those shoes, Debbie! I remember a time when polishing and taking care of your shoes was a weekly chore, now it's hard to find shoe polish in the stores!

    1. HI Jane, I know what you mean. When I saw the leather conditioner and the shoe polishes in colors I needed in the stores I grabbed them. I very rarely seen them anymore.

  3. Those look great! I love danskos! I have a pair that is missing a button, which keeps the strap in place. I need to get creative and repair those.... I bought from a thrift store for around $20!

    1. Hello! Do you have a local show repair place that could sew a button on for you since the leather is hard to sew through without special tools? At $20, you got a great deal too!

  8. The right tools make all the difference in the world. I like how you grabbed those shoe polishes when you saw them. Sounds like something I'd do.

My next project is to re-wire a table lamp. My neighbor was throwing it out because she didn't like the color. I grabbed it, bought a can of flat black spray paint and a few parts. For less then $10, I'll have a new lamp. I checked home depot when I was buying the paint and just the table base starts at $29.

Probably like you, I love the satisfaction of bringing something back to life. Cheers, SJ
