Strange title for a blog post...but bear with me and it might actually make some sense...at least I hope so. 😉
I actually think this whole pandemic dragging on and on and on, along with the dysfunctional political climate is starting to drive me a bit batty. Seriously! I also think my husband would totally agree with me on this. He is used to my random thoughts, fluctuating moods, and yes, even depression but this is a whole new ballgame.
So the other day I saw a trailer for the Godzilla vs King Kong movie. Now, I grew up in Hawaii watching the old Godzilla movies where Godzilla battled with the bad monsters who were out to destroy Japan and the world. Godzilla was often misunderstood, but he tried to protect his territory from evil monsters even if the military did not understand that was his goal. He really was a good guy! 😀 By the time I actually saw a King Kong movie, Godzilla had already won over my little girl heart. Fast forward to this new movie trailer where, to my absolute horror, they were portraying my beloved Godzilla as the bad guy! I kid you not, I got so upset! Poor Jeff just looked at me while I ranted about how Godzilla was a good guy and just misunderstood and how it was totally unfair that they were portraying him this way. I even ended up having nightmares about all this. Yes, I did! After much thought about this, I realized that I had somehow connected my feelings of unfairness about Godzilla being painted as a bad guy to what is going on in our country politically. Think about it...police officers who risk their lives every day are being vilified by some of the highest ranking politicians in our country. Even after an officer was killed during the riot on Capitol Hill, we have a certain member of the House of Representatives who tried to paint them in a bad light when they were trying to protect the same said member from being hurt. She even accused them of possibly trying to send her into harm's way. Her "story" is falling apart at the seams at the moment so who knows if she made the whole thing up or not BUT it still remains that she is trying to paint the brave Capitol police officers in a bad light even when one died of injuries, one committed suicide shortly after this and many others were hurt. Yes, I am pissed off, one of my Josh's friends used to be a member of the Capitol police and my son knows many of the officers who are still a part of police force.
As for the country songs, well have you ever listened to the lyrics of some of them where they talk about just going out and enjoying the simple pleasures in life? You know, a day out on the river or lake, singing around a bonfire, camping out under the moon with not a care in the world with your friends and family? Yes, I miss those moments in life! I miss going out on the boat with my parents in Montana (it's been more than a year since I have been able to see them in person and spend time with them) with the breeze blowing in our face while we explore the lake. I miss going camping with my kids and grandkids, sitting around a campfire and roasting marshmallows and making S'mores. I miss having the freedom to just jump in the car and go explore small towns without the fear of catching this horrible virus. Most of all, I miss being able to just be with my friends and family and share hugs with them. I am a hugger and this is killing me not being able to do that.
Sadly I fear that this virus will remain with us for a long time with all the dangerous mutations that are happening with it. Restrictions will remain in place for a long time. Our political climate is getting even more divisive and it will destroy our country if we don't figure out a way to regain some common sense, human decency and start actually following the law and holding everyone to the same standards. It seems to me right now it is a "I want my way no matter what the cost or harm it might cause" kind of thinking for many people. What they either don't realize or maybe don't even care, is that they are destroying the country that our ancestors fought so hard for so that ALL of us could have the freedom to pursue our dreams, worship whomever we choose to, and not live in fear of someone coming to lock us up for simply sharing our thoughts. We need there to be consequences for those who harm others, who steal, destroy property, loot and burn down buildings. We need there to be consequences for those who lie to further their own agendas. We need there to be equal standards for what is unacceptable about using racial, homophobic and other hateful and hurtful rhetoric no matter who says it! Wrong is wrong. Do I believe people have made mistakes in their past and can learn and grow from it? Absolutely! The key is actually learning, acknowledging, growing and changing their behavior. We all make mistakes in life and hopefully we do learn from them.
So here is to Godzilla, who is misunderstood and really is a good guy, country songs, campfires, family, friends and common sense to once again come to pass. May we all be able to hang on for a bit longer and once again be able to hug and gather with our loved ones, and not worry about being called every bad name ending in "ist" because we believe in everyone being treated with respect and dignity and also believe in common sense.
In the area of Missouri where I live it doesn't seem like the virus vaccine is getting out very fast. And then one big hospital chain had favored their large financial contributors with vaccinations. My husband and I have decided that we will get our Covid vaccinations, but I don't know when. I don't believe that I can sit and wait with my legs down for 5 hours to get the vaccination. I think maybe things may get faster when they quit having these big massive vaccination sites, and spread them out and make them more on a community basis. I don't know of any CVS's or Walgreen's around here that have parking space for people to have massive lines to get the shots.
ReplyDeleteI am missing my kids and grandkids. My grandson was exposed to Corona virus on the school bus at the end of last week. The school said he needs to quarantine and not be going around other people, but he should still come to school!!??? I am praying that he didn't catch it, he's got a baby sister who is just a month old, and a Mom and Dad. We have done FaceTime to see our baby grand daughter. I enjoyed it so much getting to see her wiggling around and having her bottle, but was so sad that we still haven't gotten to see her in person. Our son in law is a plumber and I worry about him getting exposed, so my husband and I don't feel safe going to visit inside their home, and it's too cold outside for the baby to be visiting outside. What a time we are all going through, all over the world.
((((HUGS)))) Susie. The vaccine rollout here in Washington state has been chaotic at best. You are supposed to make an appointment, but those slots get filled up quickly, if you can even get through to the website or don't get a busy signal on the phone. I know that many people are booking appointments in multiple counties and even across state lines just trying to get one IF they are in the groups that are allowed to get them at this time. Jeff and I have decided to not get them until we see how other people do with them...just not enough info out there for us personally to feel comfortable yet. I encourage everyone to do what is right for them.
DeleteI don't understand why your grandson's school says he has to quarantine but still come to school. That makes absolutely no sense. What are they even thinking? Praying that he does not have it and that your family remains safe. I so understand not being able to see your precious grandchildren and meet the new baby. We are all taking precautions so that JOsh, Lauren and baby Tate can come and safely visit us in about 2 weeks. Even then, I know that we are taking a risk since we will get together as a family. We know for sure that 2 members of our family have already had covid, another one is sure they had it and so is their doctor based on their symptoms before it was so widespread and another 2 feel like they may have also had it based on their symptoms when it was going around their workplaces. That means all the older three grandkids have also been exposed to it either through their parents, church or daycare in the past months and if they were going to get it, they most likely have already. Josh, Lauren and baby Tate have been home for the most part trying to protect him and themselves. Thank goodness for maternity and paternity leave! We are praying that no one ends up getting it again or for the first time and will continue to be as careful as we can. I continue to monitor the case rates for our town, county and right across the border from us in Idaho.
I'm keeping you and yours in my prayers and I hope you can get your vaccines soon. ((((HUGS))))
Well said!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteOur family doctor is vaccinating us. My 91 year old mom got her first in his office. They told me that I would be called with an appointment when my age group was next. I agree with your sentiments of the current state of Americans. Cancel culture is so scary, hypocracy has become normal in our leadership. I wish they would vote on bills one at a time instead of shoving them all together like ghoulash and then expecting everyone to understand it and live by it. Pray hard for our leadership, that God will be welcomed into their hearts, minds and daily life.
ReplyDeleteRight there with you my friend!
DeleteHey, you can still do a lake trip and picnic next to it (when warmer). You can camp - separate tents and you can bonfire - just keep some distance. Doesn't mean you can't have fun - you just need to get creative.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on the vaccine. Not just going with the flow here. I don't trust anything about it yet. I will stay safe and wait.
This country is a mess - prayer is all I have and I pray for it and all of us daily. God has put these obstacles in our path for a reason.
Stay well.
Thank you Cheryl for your very practical suggestions. :) Praying here as well my friend!
DeleteI think the vaccination situation will be improved a lot very soon, as supplies increase, and distribution is better organized. My mom, aunt, hubby and myself were able to get our first doses last week. We lucked into appointments and it was a new clinic, but very efficiently run. The rampant disrespect in our country is very disheartening, but I do think it would be naive to assume that all members of an honorable group are honorable themselves. There are bad apples in every bunch. This has been shown over and over in the military, police and ministry, just to name a few. There is still beauty in our world, but we have to look pretty hard to see it some days. I try to still be optimistic about our future as a nation.
ReplyDeleteI agree...I know a few of those bad apples in each of those areas too. Overall though, I know that the good outweighs the bad and that the good apples want the bad apples out as much as the rest of the rational thinking people do. :)
DeleteIf Trump had handled the Virus situation better at the beginning you would not be in the current state. Look at countries like NZ, Vietnam etc they practically have no virus now.
ReplyDeleteMaybe, maybe not. He could only go with what information he was given at the time and when he did shut down travel early on from China he was accused of being a racist for doing so. We have to remember that there were many others who did not see the danger of this virus either. The media, WHO and CDC were all giving conflicting information and in some cases, covering things up. If we really want to affix blame, it should be with the CCP who tried to cover things up for so long and who arrested doctors and reporters who were trying to get the truth of what was going on out to the world.
DeleteI too am starting to go a little bonkers. I am usually an up person and this is starting to really get to me. I was at my specialists today and he is from Pakistan. I asked him how things were in his country and he said fine. What? how can this poverty ravaged country be fine? HE said it was warm and humid there and that all buildings are open to the air and even though crowds are much more dense this prevented spread. Also the country was too poor to lockdown and most people could not afford masks. He blamed our government fighting for not having the vaccines out. But he still thought the US was the best place to live. I am upset that I can't get a vaccine with all my auto immune problems and told him it was his job to advocate for his patients.
ReplyDeleteI know I should not laugh, but I will never look at Godzilla the same....
ReplyDeleteThose old Godzilla movies were so cheesy, but fun.
ReplyDeleteThe Capital riots weren't fun though. Weren't some of the Capital police officers suspended for helping the rioters? They weren't the good guys. We must not forget those who incited the violence and tried to overthrow our democracy and who killed that brave police officer. Without him and those like him, evil would have triumphed.
I have to agree with Sam from LOTR, "That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for." Thankful for those who are fighting for good, those who are standing up for the truth instead of those who are blinded by lies and conspiracies.
We need the Lord. He is the only one who can save us.
ReplyDeleteThere are people trying to intentionally change our country, but if they get what they want they won't like it.
I was diagnosed as HEPATITIS B carrier in 2013 with fibrosis of the
ReplyDeleteliver already present. I started on antiviral medications which
reduced the viral load initially. After a couple of years the virus
became resistant. I started on HEPATITIS B Herbal treatment from
ULTIMATE LIFE CLINIC (www.ultimatelifeclinic.com) in March, 2020. Their
treatment totally reversed the virus. I did another blood test after
the 6 months long treatment and tested negative to the virus. Amazing
treatment! This treatment is a breakthrough for all HBV carriers.
