The Abbreviated Frugal Friday Wrap Up for the Last Week of May 2018

I have been pretty much wiped out after coming home from our family reunion and did not keep good records of the frugal doings around her.  I'm going to try and do this from memory, which we all know is NOT good due to Fibro fog and fatigue. 😉  Here is goes...

~We brought home lots of leftovers from the family reunion so I did not have to cook for several days which turned out to be a good thing.
~My car needed an emergency brake job and Jaysn rescued us in town and then Rachel took us back the next day after it was done to get it.
~Rachel and Jaysn helped us with some yard work.
~I am keeping water in the refrigerator in my car so I don't stop and buy that or soda pop when I am out and about. I have to say that little built in refrigerator/freezer had come in really handy.
~My volunteer kale, sunflowers and dill are going nuts!
~I borrowed another book from the library.
~We had Jaysn, Rachel and Steven up for dinner and grilled burgers and sweet potatoes plus cooked up some Sweet Italian sausages for dinner the next night.
~I did not make bread this week because we had some left from Montana and I bought a loaf of sourdough also on our way home.
~I did stock up on some groceries at the Grocery Outlet on Monday since we were going through that town on our way home anyway.
~I made a menu based on what we had here on hand.

  1. Sorry you have been so out of it. Sounds like a quiet and frugal week for the most part - except brakes!
    Relax!

    1. Thanks Cheryl. Those brakes were a big expense, especially following on the footsteps of having to replace the water heater a few weeks prior to that.

  2. You need some down time girl and it sounds like things are a little slower.

    1. I am finally feeling a little more energetic today. I was able to get a bunch of things done. My cousin and his wife will be here some time mid week and there is still a lot more that I need to get done. ;)

  3. You were able to accomplish a lot of frugal things! Sorry to hear about the brakes, though. Sorry, too, to hear of the flare ups; hope you get some rest between now and when your cousin arrives.

  4. Our brakes are starting to make noises that Rob thinks are them saying they are going to need work, soon! Yuck!! Of all the things to spend money on, they are super important, but not fun!!!! So, I'm afraid we are going to be in the same boat very soon. I'm glad you were able to get them fixed.

I'm in the midst of one of them most crazy, busy times I've had in recent history. There was a dance recital last week, coupled with lots of rehearsals. There is a graduation for Ja'Ana, my daughter, Thursday, and a party on Saturday. I have 3 daughters with birthdays within a week, coming up, plus a little friend's birthday, too. We are very involved with her birthday party, too. There's the whole house to get ready for the party and food to cook. In the meanwhile, I'm working a few more hours than normal, while trying to get the yard and house into shape. I'm also trying to get in every single medical appointments/eye doctor/dentist/orthodontist/therapy/etc. for every member of the family. They still have not told my husband, or anyone else that works in his classroom, whether or not they are going to renew their contracts for fall now, or wait until August to decide, meaning we may or may not have insurance this summer, and he may or may not have to start from square one and reapply for a job this fall. Stressful for everyone, but that's what you get when your job is a one-year contract each year! It's a good thing I am done with homeschool for the year. I simply wouldn't have time for that right now! I just turned everything in last Wednesday, but it was a lot of work to get that all done and scored in time for the appointment, so I'm super relieved and feel extremely happy that is done. One by one, these things will get done, and checked off my list. I just keep shopping at every store, getting the sale items I need for these events. I also am about 1/2 way done getting gifts for people for all these birthdays, graduations, and so forth. I wish I had time to make some gifts, but just simply cannot right now. I did find a library book with some good gift ideas in it, though, and I'm thinking about making some of them for Christmas, if I can:).

    1. Oh my goodness Becky. I would be so stressed out by all of that, especially with Rob's job and not knowing if he will have one next year. Honestly, they school district would be a fool not to renew his contract. Praying they do soon!

  5. They did not. We found out just now. He and another lady are not being renewed, due to "district-wide budget constraints." I'm still processing.

    1. Oh, Becky, I am so sorry! I am sure, though, that things will be OK. Keeping you in my prayers.
