Another One Bites the Dust

I had just got up and was thinking about heading outside to turn the water onto the side garden when I heard a crack and then a thud.  Jeff and I looked at each other and I said "another branch came down".  Sure enough, this is what we saw.  If I had not procrastinated and sat down in the recliner for a few minutes, I would have been standing right where that branch came down when it did.  Thank you Jesus!  It did not hit our home or vehicles, but did take out just the corner of my front flowerbed. That should recover though.  I am just so thankful that no one was hurt.  My grandkids were playing in the front yard yesterday right under that tree.  Again, thank you Jesus!

The poor old tree that is in our wonderful neighbor's  yard is dying a slow and painful death.  Sadly, the branch that came down has provided so much shade for us in the mornings and midday in our living room.  The branch did hit the fence hard, but luckily Jeff was able to repair that  after he was done cutting the branch apart.  He borrowed Uncle Bob's trailer to haul off the smaller parts and now have the bigger pieces stacked in the yard for another friend to come and get.  They will use the wood for their campfires this summer.

I felt so bad for our neighbor/friend/hanai sister Shannon.  She came home from working a very long shift overnight to see yet another branch from her beloved tree in our yard.  She felt awful and told us she could help us clear it up on Wednesday.  Jeff told her not to worry, he would take care of it.  She insisted on gifting us with dinner out one night.  She did not need to do that.  We always help each other out with things, but she still insisted.  I'm now watching another branch that I can see will most likely be breaking within the next month or so.  This poor tree.  I love it and hate to see it dying.

  2. That's pretty scary. I'm glad you weren't anywhere near that branch! Maybe that entire tree needs to be taken out? We had to remove a "widow-maker" as they called it at our old property because it was so dangerous. It was quite expensive, but had to be done.

    1. Becky, we have been wondering the same thing. I just feel really bad for our neighbors though because that is such a huge expense but one that they are looking into.

  3. Thankfully no one was hurt! We've had many trees come down around here also. We're surrounded by very large trees and were just commenting on how fortunate we've been that none of the ones that have fallen have done damage to the house.

    1. Sandy, I'll bet windstorms are scary with all those tall trees. I keep an eye out when we have them here also because there are several really tall trees in our neighborhood.

I'm glad to see that everyone's ok, but that poor old tree, has to be pruned.
    Have a great week, Debbie!

    1. Hi Paula, we are wondering if it needs to be pruned or just taken down. You can see the rot in the branches when they break. I'm afraid this old tree is in it's last days.

  6. Maybe your neighbor should have the tree removed? I'd be scared someone is going to be hurt.

    1. Thanks Cheryl. :) We had another branch come down in some high winds this evening, but not as big as that other one thank goodness. Again, thank God I had decided to wait and not go out to water or I would have been standing right under that one too.

  9. Also thankful that you and your family are safe. How scary to think your grandsons were playing underneath the day before. That photo with Jeff really shows the scale of how big it was.
Hope you're having more energy this week. I'm a little tired today - I took the dog to the vet yesterday for a followup appointment. Traffic wasn't bad this time, thankfully. But it's still a bit of a drive there and back. Worth it though since I really like and trust this vet. My dog has bad allergies and his skin gets hot spots in the warmer weather. The meds he got worked and he's back to normal now, yea!
Take good care of yourself. SJ

    1. HI SJ, I'm so glad your dog is feeling better. We dealt with hot spots on our Sasha. They were no fun at all! Doofy will sometimes get them, but amazingly he has not had them so far this Summer.

  10. Wow, glad no one was hurt. I know we love the shade our trees provide, but that tree must come down before it kills someone--or causes a lawsuit.

    1. Thanks Joy. They are looking into getting someone out here to take a look at it and see if it can just be trimmed or if it has to go. :(

  11. So glad that no body got hurt and nothing got damaged. Maybe your neighbor needs to have that tree trimmed before any more branches fall?

  13. Yes! Thankfully no one was hurt! In March we had an entire tree fall in the backyard. It was old and had become diseased and we had super high winds, and well it bit the dust. I'm so thankful it fell accross the backyard and not towards to house. We finally have most of of it cut up into logs for firewood.

    1. Oh my goodness Anna! I'm so sorry that happened but am so thankful that it did not hit your home and no one was hurt. I'm sure you will get lots of use out of the firewood though. Take care!
