Staying Warm and Silent

Yesterday I worked in the morning with the 18 month to 3 year olds at MOPS and then did all the shopping.  I then met Chris and Heather on my way home in Palouse to get the little boys and bring them home with me so that we could watch them while Chris and Heather went to a movie.  I had picked up a pizza for dinner because I knew that I had a really long day by that time and was really tired.  Well, the dog literally ate the whole pizza so we had LIttle Smokies sausages and homemade russet and sweet potato jojos instead.  We had so much fun with the grandboys and they enjoyed being able to hot tub with their parents when they got here. It was a really good day and one that I totally enjoyed...despite the dog eating the pizza. 😉

This morning I woke up with no voice and thankfully had nowhere I had to be.  The temperatures took a dip into the single digits last night and it is a beautiful, if not frigid day outside.  We are expecting back to back days of snow starting tomorrow.  Luckily I got all that we needed from the grocery store yesterday to see us through.

Rufus and I have been seeking out the warmth of the pellet stove.  He of course wants to be as close to it as possible, especially after he has taken a quick trip outside because he is a finicky cat that still thinks he NEEDS to go out on the back porch, even if it is just for a few minutes before he decides that it is just too cold and then goes and sits in front of the stove to warm up.

I've been curled up on the couch wrapped in a new fuzzy bathrobe with a blanket that my mother made for me.  Netflix has been entertaining me while I watch a marathon of the old TV series "It's a Different World".  I loved that show when it first aired and am enjoying it all over again now.  I am trying to get caught up on the laundry since it is something that is never ending and I can fold it all while just sitting here.  To be honest, that is about all I can handle today.  I'm not sure if I am getting the virus that has been plaguing my husband or if I have just pushed myself too far again (or possibly both).  Either way, I am listening to my body as it tells me to rest and take care of myself.

  1. Hope you are just tired and not getting sick Debbie. Otherwise it sounds like a perfectly cozy sort of day.

    1. Yes he did! :) I had put the pizza out on the back screened in porch with the porch door closed to the yard. My husband accidently left the door to the porch open when he went to let the dog out of the house. Caesar took the opportunity to gorge himself on the huge family sized pizza. Luckily the grandsons, who had been looking forward to that pizza, took it well when they saw how upset their G-pa was with himself for leaving the door open and Grammie was trying to calm him down and telling him that we would just find something else to make and that it was an honest mistake.

    2. Oh my! I was just hungry for pizza tonight (didn't' get it though). Once my mom put a roast on the table for us to come and eat and our cat jumped up and began eating it. My mom was so mad, that she gave it to the dog and didn't let the cat finish..ha...We kids were glad because we really didn't care for meat at our young ages! Andrea

  3. Hope you feel better soon. Here I sit in front of a fan or go to the shopping centre which is a temple of airconditioning and lovely and cool.
Stay warm and keep Mr Pussycat company.

    1. Thanks Jane. :) I can relate to sitting in front of a fan or in air conditioning in the Christmas season. I did the same thing when I was growing up in Hawaii. The cat is currently sitting on top of the warm pellet stove warming himself after yet another fory out to the back porch. ;)

  4. Tomorrow starts our cold snap and snow will be here Sunday/Monday. It makes we want to hunker down and stay home. Unfortunately that won't happen. You know... tis the season. :) I hope that rest is all you need to feel better.

  5. Hope you can talk soon 😱

I like that Different World show too. I went to a small college in Arkansas and it reminds me of it somewhat. And Dwane and Whitley are so cute ❤️

  6. I can't believe your dog at the entire pizza, oh my gosh!! Hoping you're not getting sick, my friend. I've been battling something for about a month - I feel great for a few days, then I feel horrible for a day....back to good....I'm like a yo yo. Today's a bad day. I think it's a Sinus infection that's trying to get me down. I'm fighting it with homemade soup and tons of Vitamin C!!

Enjoy your day by the fire - xo

    1. Deborah, I am sorry to hear that you are sick too. Please get into the doctor if you think you have a sinus infection. My son had one for months and it actually contributed to him getting pneumonia also. Even scarier is a sinus infection that got into my hubby's bloodstream and almost killed him. Hubby needs to get into the doctor again too...he has been sick for 2 weeks now. I did end up with something or other...fever, no voice, congestion, but I think I am on the mend. Praying for you!

  7. Good for you to listen to your body and take care of yourself. A lesson I'm still needing to learn some times.
And, yes, we're supposed to get snow tonight and Friday; clear skies for the weekend and snow again Mon-Friday. Yikes! Last year, we had one pidly drop of snow, one hour, that didn't even cover the grass! Today, I went out for another bag of dog food and some ingredients to make stew tomorrow. Hopefully the power will stay on this time. But I'm more then ready this time after Monday's five hours without power. The old fashioned phone is now easily at hand as are the fresh batteries and candles. The dog has adjusted to very short walks. I don't walk very far at all when the sidewalks are iced over. In any case, I'm praying for you and that this virus-thing is short lived. Cheers, SJ

    1. HI SJ,
It looks like we are not going to get as much snow as they first thought we were but I am still prepared. ;) Jeff just took our dog for a much needed walk since I have not been able to do that with him. I do hope that you do not lose power again but am glad you are prepared just in case. ;)

    1. Thanks and yes it has. It's snowing again tonight and I am so thankful to be inside cuddled up under a blanket. My voice is still gone and I am really hoping it comes back by Monday. Having a phone conversation with my kids is not easy when I can barely speak above a whisper and squeak a lot. ;)

  10. Oh my goodness. I remember when I had a big dog and he could get things off the counter in the kitchen. With Buddy, he is so short but so quick if you drop anything on the floor. Dogs are a trip in the kitchen.

  11. We're not getting as much snow today either. Although it's been snowing steadily since I got up, so we'll see what happens. Fine with me but I'm still staying home for the day. Stew for the crockpot and reading a mystery are my plans for the day. Hope you're feeling better. Cheers, SJ
