Slow Summer Day

Daisy enjoying being out on the screened in back porch.  She is an indoor cat so this is the closest thing she gets to being outdoors. ;)

After the craziness that has been our lives lately and a very busy day running around yesterday getting shopping and errands done, I was more than happy to have a non rainy day at home.  The weeds had pretty much taken over the garden so I got most of them pulled and then planted the squash and cucumber plants.  Only 2 out of 20 squash seeds came up so I had to replace them with actual plants this far along in the season.  I piled more dirt around the potato plants so that we hopefully will get more than a few potatoes and then picked more strawberries.  Upon checking on the blueberry bushes, I think that we will have some ready to pick within a week along with cherries from our tree.  Speaking of the cherry tree, the birds are having a marvelous stuffing themselves silly.  I am glad that there are lots of cherries this year so that we can have some too.

Laundry was finished while it was still cool this morning and I got a pork roast going in the crockpot.  My allergies are flaring up big time so I am trying to make things as easy as possible on myself at the moment.  The temperatures are expected to climb into the 100-110 degree range within the next few days so I am enjoying the relatively cool mid 80's in the shade while I can.  As the temperature climbs up to the 90 mark later today, I will retreat into the house and off the screened in back porch, turn on the swamp cooler and curl up with a good book or two.  I am not a girl who does heat well despite being raised in Hawaii.  We are lucky that it is a dry heat here most of the time but today and for the rest of this weekend and early next week the humidity is high.  I'm thinking some time in the hot tub (which I am not heating at the moment) later today is in order.  We like to use it to cool down on hot days and nights.  It has been a huge blessing to both my husband and I.

  2. Awwwwwe...I don't know that I've seen Daisy before. She's soooo pretty and FURRRRRRRY. :) Makes me miss my kitty. Had him 13 years before I moved out here and then he had to move in with my best friend back in Illinois. He's gone to kitty heaven now though. But he sure wasy my little snuggly furbaby.
Whoa, you did get a lot done! Hope you have a nice weekend and stay cool.

    1. Thanks Lisa. That must have been so hard to leave your fur baby behind when you moved. I'm glad that you were able to have him stay with your friend though so you knew he was safe and loved.
